A course for students giving oral academic presentations in English-speaking colleges and universities.

Passport to Academic Presentations Oral presentations have become an increasingly important feature of Higher Education; developing abilities in this area can be crucial for students' academic success. Passport to Academic Presentations aims to demystify the entire oral presentation process by examining each of the different stages in turn. No prior knowledge is assumed, and students are gradually introduced to a set of core language and skills, allowing them to tackle oral presentations in an academic context with increased confidence and fluency.

English for Banking has 12 units, each of which is based on a different aspect of banking. Odd-numbered units are based on listening (lecture/seminar extracts). Even-numbered units are based on reading.
Each unit provides between 4 and 6 hours of classroom activity with the possibility of a further 2-4 hours on the suggested extra activities. The course will be suitable, therefore, as the core component of a faculty-specific pre-sessional or foundation course of between 50 and 80 hours.

In this study, the researchers focus on four instructional practices used by the participating teacher, which rely on strategies for applying critical questions to analyze advertising: the cloze technique, the question generation approach, practice in analyzing ads using critical questions in class discussion, and a collaborative online writing activity resulting in the creation of a multiparagraph multimedia document.
