Welcome to Sunburst 1! Our main concern when developing this book was to provide you with real-life situations that may be helpful for you to actively involve your students in the acquisition of English as a second language. We selected themes that may be attractive for them to create learning environments in which they will naturally use the language to communicate.

World Englishes in English Language Teaching

Argues that Englishes beyond the inner circle (e.g. Indian English) have already been codified and firmly established

Problematizes the terminologies currently used for certain World Englishes and calls for the need to  distinguish, for example, between ‘Chinglish’ and ‘China English’

Addresses the contentious terms such as: native speakers, foreign varieties, glocal, Englishes and English as an International Language
