Why a book on learner strategies? Modern languages teaching over the past decade or so has moved from more or less traditional approaches, involving the explicit teaching of grammar and translation, to various versions of communicative methodology. In England, the communicative accent has been reflected in the Graded Objectives movement, the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) and the reform of Advanced Level syllabuses. However, despite this trend and the appearance of aplethora of attractive and authentic language-teaching materials, there has been a growing concern that learners have not progressed as much as might have been anticipated. Furthermore, learners are not developing independent language use; in short, they lack linguistic autonomy.
This book brings good news to teachers. No longer need teaching be so stressful. No longer need we struggle with our unmotivated students and passive learners. No longer must we abandon so many of our ideals. We now know how we can run our classrooms so students will want to cooperate, will want to do good work, will in fact want to do the very best they can for us. I strongly recommend this ebook

The public school system in the United States faces a perpetual challenge in attracting and retaining well-qualified teachers. In Teachers Wanted: Attracting and Retaining Good Teachers, Daniel A. Heller provides an insider's view of the sources of this ongoing problem--and powerful suggestions for resolving it.
This book is a collection of research work done in different parts of the worldwith one common goal – to enhance teaching and learning through technology. Content interaction and learning support are some of the key issues in the book. Many of the contributors worked together, so to speak, in cyber space as a result of technological advances. Many got to know one another through conferences we attended since the late 90’s. Many of the ideas in the book were presented at ICT2006 and ICT2007. The conference attracted about 300 researchers and practitioners around the world annually. One of the authors of Chapter One was indeed a keynote speaker from the conference.
