English for Academic Purposes in Neoliberal Universities: A Critical Grounded Theory (Educational Linguistics)
The critical grounded theory presented in this book offers valuable insights on the social processes and strategies used by Blended English for Academic Purposes Professionals (BLEAPs) at higher education institutions, as they struggle to negotiate the challenges arising from a new focus on recruiting international students and hunting for other resources for their universities. Drawing from in-depth interviews with numerous research participants at over eleven higher educational institutions in the UK, Japan and the United States, this work focuses on those who have been precariously placed as middle manager at many EAP and TESOL programs.
"Academic Writing for International Students of Business" is the first book specially designed to assist overseas students studying Business or Economics courses in English. Most courses expect students to complete a variety of writing tasks as part of their assessment, such as essays, reports and projects. For many students these can be a major concern, but this book explains the writing process from start to finish and practises all the key writing skills.
This was impeccably researched and footnoted. The author says he read over 200 refereed papers in preparation to write this book, and I think they are all noted. The author is himself a respected biological scientist. It formatted like a scientific paper, except written in lay language rather than "academic speak". That is a good thing.
“Ferrell's book offers good critical insights into the functions of myth and the aesthetics of film and literature and a thougthful unveiling of myth in film and literature. Excellent bibliography. Should be acquired for all academic Collections.”–Choice.
