In the wake of a suicide, the most troubling questions are invariably the most difficult to answer: How could we have known? What could we have done? And always, unremittingly: Why? Written by a clinical psychologist whose own life has been touched by suicide, this book offers the clearest account ever given of why some people choose to die.
The Calculus Diaries: How Math Can Help You Lose Weight, Win in Vegas, and Survive a Zombie Apocalypse
Kiss My Math meets A Tour of the Calculus Jennifer Ouellette never took math in college, mostly because she-like most people-assumed that she wouldn't need it in real life. But then the English-major-turned-award-winning-science-writer had a change of heart and decided to revisit the equations and formulas that had haunted her for years. The Calculus Diaries is the fun and fascinating account of her year spent confronting her math phobia head on.
Skew Fields: Theory of General Division Rings (Encyclopedia of Mathematics and its Applications)
Algebraists have studied noncommutative fields (also called skew fields or division rings) less thoroughly than their commutative counterparts. Most existing accounts have been confined to division algebras, i.e. skew fields that are finite dimensional over their center. This work offers the first comprehensive account of skew fields. It is based on the author's LMS Lecture Note Volume "Skew Field Constructions". The axiomatic foundation and a precise description of the embedding problem precedes an account of algebraic and topological construction methods. The author presents his general embedding theory with full proofs, leading to the construction of skew fields.
This book documents the most up-to-date information on each of the region's mammals. It describes the animals under a series of set headings, which cover distribution and status, habitat, field characteristis, sounds, food and feeding, breeding biology and social systems. Each account is accompanied by a full color photograph(s) of the animal in it's naturalhabitat, plus a distribution map.
An account of the relations between England and France during the later fourteenth and early fifteenth centuries, particularly as they influenced the career of Henry V of England, whose life story is interwoven into this account.
