The purpose of this brief publication is to provide the secondary language arts teacher with a series of meaningful activity options which use the newspaper as the learning resource. An attempt is made to briefly discuss the purposes of language arts education, the advantages of using the newspaper as a resource, and the relationship between the two. The activities in this publication were selected because they are supportive of the purposes of language arts education. Numerous books, kits, guides and journal articles were used as part of the selection process.
Among particular issues discussed in this book are the problems of the cultural disadvantaged, the problems of devising psychological tests which are not biased towards any particular culture, the problems of minority groups of children in education and the relationship between heritability and teachability.
