We all know eloquence when we hear it. But what exactly is it? And how might we gain more of it for ourselves? This entertaining and, yes, eloquent book illuminates the power of language from a linguistic point of view and provides fascinating insights into the way we use words. David Crystal, a world-renowned expert on the history and usage of the English language, probes the intricate workings of eloquence. His lively analysis encompasses everyday situations (wedding speeches, business presentations, storytelling) as well as the oratory of great public gatherings.
In this video, author Denis Delaney describes a step-by-step approach to building oral and written competences. He suggests that this simple but effective approach will genuinely help students progress in these fundamental language skills.
I have a 13 month old who is still babbling, and turned to this book for direction with her language development. While I found some of the information interesting, it is mostly a compilation and description of all of the relevant research associated with language development. There were a lot of examples and (unnecessary) visual aids, but nothing that really gave me the insight I was looking for (i.e. how to aid her in attaining this milestone).
