Playback
Playback is the final complete novel by Raymond Chandler, which features his iconic creation Philip Marlowe. It was published in 1958, the year before his death. Marlowe is hired by an influential lawyer he's never herd of to tail a gorgeous redhead, but decides he prefers to help out the redhead. She's been acquitted of her alcoholic husband's murder, but her father-in-law prefers not to take the court's word for it.
This book is so, so funny! Beginning with a wedding that never happens, thanks to the ingenious plans of a mother, down to the pains taken by an attentive young man to prove his love. Upper class Sam Marlowe is bitten by a small dog and smitten by its cute, but ditzy redhead owner.

The Little Sister
The Little Sister is a 1949 novel by Raymond Chandler, the fifth in his popular Philip Marlowe series. The story opens when mousy Orfamay Quest first phones and then visits Philip Marlowe's office in search of a detective. Orfamay is a "small, neat, rather prissy-looking girl with primly smooth brown hair and rimless glasses" from Manhattan, Kansas who has come to Los Angeles to search for her older brother Orrin.
The Companion to Christopher Marlowe provides a full introduction to this famed pioneer of both the Elizabethan stage and modern English poetry. Sixteen leading scholars provide accessible and authoritative chapters on all relevant topics of Marlowe's life and works, including his texts and style, his use of classicism, his representations of sexuality and gender and of geography and identity. The volume also considers the religious, political, courtly and literary contexts of Marlowe's authorship, his presence in modern film and theatre, and his influence on subsequent writers.
