The Doll's House and Other Stories (Penguin Readers - Level 4)
Set in England and New Zealand, these four short stories are funny, sad and often cruel. "Penguin Readers" is a series of simplified novels, film novelizations and original titles that introduce students at all levels to the pleasures of reading in English. Originally designed for teaching English as a foreign language, the series' combination of high interest level and low reading age makes it suitable for both English-speaking teenagers with limited reading skills and students of English as a second language.
In 1937, French author Roger Martin du Gard was awarded the Literature Nobel Prize for "The Thibaults." Written between 1922 and 1929, this 800-page chronicle of a Parisian family is a rewarding work for readers interested primarily in psychological motivations of complex, life-like characters.
