The Listening and Speaking Activities booklets consists of five pages of teacher notes and twenty-three activity pages. Teacher notes discuss the speaking and listening principles involved in each activity. They provide practical guidelines for conducting the activity and for evaluating students' answers to questions.
Activity pages include practical tips and suggestions for performing the activity and questions to help students evaluate the effectiveness of their own and their peers' participation.

Teaching Listening and Speaking - From Theory to Practice

This booklet explores approaches to the teaching of listening and speaking in light of the kinds of issues discussed in the preceding paragraphs. My goal is to examine what applied linguistics research and theory says about the nature of listening and speaking skills, and then to explore what the implications are for classroom teaching. We will begin with examining the teaching of listening.

Teaching Listening

Listening in another language is a hard job, but we can make it easier by applying what we know about activating prior knowledge, helping students organize their learning by thinking about their purposes for listening, and if speaking is also a goal of the classroom, using well-structured speaking tasks informed by research.
