Gaudy Night
When Harriet Vane attends her Oxford reunion, known as the "Gaudy," the prim academic setting is haunted by a rash of bizarre pranks: scrawled obsentities, burnt effigies and poison-pen letters -- including one that says, "Ask your boyfriend with the title if he likes arsenic in his soup."Some of the notes threaten murder; all are perfectly ghastly; yet in spite of their scurrilous nature, all are perfectly worded. And Harriet finds herself ensnared in a nightmare of romance and terror, with only the tiniest shreds of clues to challenge her powers of detection, and those of her paramour, Lord Peter Wimsey.
The smallest reindeer is exploring Santa’s workshop when he accidentally falls into the giftwrapping machine, and finds himself being delivered as a present! The little boy who receives him is overjoyed and cares for him with devotion. One day he discovers that his reindeer is special - he can fly! When Christmas comes round again, the little reindeer disappears, but in his bed of straw the boy finds a thank you note...from Santa Claus. The Little Reindeer is an original and enchanting story, full of warmth and illustrated in glowing watercolours. In this new Christmas story, Michael Foreman has returned to the exciting New York scenes of Cat and Canary.
Lord Peter Wimsey becomes fascinated when bohemian Harriet Vane is accused of murdering her lover. He investigates further and finds himself falling in love with her as he visits her in prison and watches her in court. But can he save her from the gallows?
Surrounded by parents and siblings with remarkable talents, Sam yearns to be good at something himself, and finds his own special niche when he discovers the pleasures of painting.
