On the BeachOn the Beach

On the Beach is a post-apocalyptic end-of-the-world novel written by British-Australian author Nevil Shute after he had emigrated to Australia. It was published in 1957.
The novel was adapted for the screenplay of a 1959 film featuring Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner, and Fred Astaire, and a 2000 television film starring Armand Assante and Rachel Ward. BBC Radio 4 broadcast a full cast audio dramatisation in two hour-long episodes as part of their Classic Serial strand in November 2008.[1]
The book takes its name from the T. S. Eliot poem The Hollow Men.

The book begins precisely where Kidnapped ends, at 2 PM on 25 August 1751 outside the British Linen Company in Edinburgh, Scotland.
In the second part, David and Catriona travel to Holland, where David studies law at the University of Leyden.

Drop City is a 2003 novel by American author T. Coraghessan Boyle. The novel, set in 1970, describes the social evolution of a group of counter-cultural free spirits, not unlike the inhabitants of the real Drop City community in Colorado, from which the novel apparently takes its name. However, Boyle's fictional group initially live in California and later move to a remote part of Alaska. The novel was a finalist for the 2003 National Book Award.
