Master Math Solving Word Problems

Master Math Solving Word ProblemsStudents throughout the world fear and dread solving word problems. As students’ reading skills have declined, so have their abilities to solve word problems. This book offers solutions to the most standard and non-standard word problems available. It follows the suggestions of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and incorporates the types of problems usually found on standardized math tests (PSAT, SAT, and others)

Number Theory: Structures, Examples, and ProblemsNumber theory, an ongoing rich area of mathematical exploration, is noted for its theoretical depth, with connections and applications to other fields from representation theory, to physics, cryptography, and more. While the forefront of number theory is replete with sophisticated and famous open problems, at its foundation are basic, elementary ideas that can stimulate and challenge beginning students. This lively introductory text focuses on a problem-solving approach to the subject.

The IMO Compendium: A Collection of Problems Suggested for The International Mathematical Olympiads: 1959-2004

The IMO Compendium: A Collection of Problems Suggested for The International Mathematical Olympiads: 1959-2004The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) has within its almost 50-year-old history become the most popular and prestigious competition for high-school students interested in mathematics. Only six students from each participating country are given the honor of participating in this competition every year. The IMO represents not only a great opportunity to tackle interesting and challenging mathematics problems, it also offers a way for high school students to measure up with students from the rest of the world.

The IMO has sparked off a burst of creativity among enthusiasts in creating new and interesting mathematics problems. In an extremely stiff competition, only six problems are chosen each year to appear on the IMO. The total number of problems proposed for the IMOs up to this point is staggering and, as a whole, this collection of problems represents a valuable resource for all high school students preparing for the IMO.

Mathematical Olympiad Treasures

alt"Mathematical Olympiad Treasures" aims at building a bridge between ordinary high school examples and exercises and more sophisticated, intricate and abstract concepts and problems in undergraduate mathematics. The book contains a stimulating collection of problems in the subjects of geometry and trigonometry, algebra, number theory and combinatorics. While it may be considered a sequel to "Mathematical Olympiad Challenges," the focus of "Treasures" is on engaging a wider audience of undergraduates to think creatively in applying techniques and strategies to problems in the real world.
