Using this dictionary
the words featured in this dictionary have been chosen because they can be difficult to spell. Since there is a limit to the total number of words that can be included, only words most likely to be used by the general reader or writer are given. Very few proper nouns appear and foreign terms are included only if they are in common usage. Thus, you will find words such as "chauffeur" and "debut", but not "hors combat" or "gite". A few common slang words have also been given.

How Children Learn to Write WordsWriting allows people to convey information to others who are remote in time and space, vastly increasing the range over which people can cooperate and the amount they can learn. Mastering the writing system of one's language is crucial for success in a modern society. This book examines how children learn to write words. It provides a theoretical framework that integrates findings from a wide range of age groups--from children who are producing their first scribbles to experienced spellers who are writing complex words.

Flexible Word Classes: Typological studies of underspecified parts of speech

Flexible Word Classes: Typological studies of underspecified parts of speechThis book is the first major cross-linguistic study of 'flexible words', i.e. words that cannot be classified in terms of the traditional lexical categories Verb, Noun, Adjective or Adverb. Flexible words can - without special morphosyntactic marking - serve in functions for which other languages must employ members of two or more of the four traditional, 'specialised' word classes. Thus, flexible words are underspecified for communicative functions like 'predicating' (verbal function), 'referring' (nominal function) or 'modifying' (a function typically associated with adjectives and e.g. manner adverbs).
