There is no other time of the year quite like Halloween. It can be very exciting and fun for young learners, but it can also be a little scary. Songs are always an amazing teaching tool, but they can be particularly effective in making Halloween fun and educational. Simple songs that introduce basic concepts with lots of movement can really help young learners relax and find the fun.
The Set Sail! Series focuses on getting young learners to enjoy communicating in English through a wide variety of activities in all four skills. Its pupil-centred approach motivates young learners, thus ensuring a positive experience in the English language classroom.
There was a time when teaching English to young children was conceived of as maitily a matter of involving them in songs and games. Songs and games of course remain important for young learners, but our ideas have evolved considerably in recent years. We have come to realize that, for these kinds of learners, there is a need for more than just teaching the language-rather the language is just one element in a process of helping them to develop as 'whole persons': an educational rather than just a training process.
